Domain name - Selecting domain name
I just found a neat site for brainstorming a domain name. It lets you pick two words and then comes up with a list of possible domain names. There are some sites that let you pick three words and then tries to find domain names from them, remember the shorter the name the easier it is to remember. The list shows what is available by extension, .com, .net, .biz etc. I saw some pretty good domain names available off the one combination that I tried. Make sure you check the box Allow hyphens. If you just have to have more than two words in your domain name just combine two in one box, and put one in the other. I tried it and it works just try different combinations of it. Oh yeah the site is nameboy.com.
Of course it goes without saying that you want to pick a domain name that will have something to do with the theme of your site. To find some good keywords you can go to overture and find out how many searches were made in the last month for the keywords you are considering. Pick a couple of high search keywords and plug them into nameboy and see what comes up. You should do your best to make it a name that is easy to remember. I would also try to stay with .com or .net preferably .com.
Another way to pick your domain name is to make it a so called Vanity name. That’s right name it after yourself. You don’t get the seo benefit of a keyword associated domain name, but if you set up the rest of your site the right way it shouldn’t hurt to much.Good luck in picking your domain name I will be posting soon on where to register it. You may want to wait for that post before you register your new name. There are some very important things to know about who you register with, registering at the wrong place could cost you in the long run..

Very interesting… However, I can’t wait until august for the 30-Day Challenge, so I’m going through your site here. Any other suggestions in the meantime?

TSR

I would go and register now if you haven’t and you will be able to go though last years challenge. From what Ed has said lately is there will be some differences in last year and this year.
If you weren’t involved in last years, there was one major hiccup with one of the blog’s they recommended. There is a lot to learn from last year which will hopefully roll into this years. Bum marketing is close to what last years 30 day challenge was with a few tweaks.
